The #kimpurusha
Majestic and elegant, towering over most men, with skills to match and vanquish any warrior. A little-known tribe from the mountainous areas around the Himalayan range and sacred jungles of east India. Were they half lion and half man? Did men who faced defeat under these marvellous warriors come back with stories portraying them with a lion spirit and not a physical similarity? Kirata or lion nature. Were they men with large manes of facial hair?
It is difficult to tell. The Kimpurushas are related to the Kinnara kingdom and the Kamboja kingdom as well.
When you talk about the Kimpurushas, you cannot miss mention of the great warrior Druma. It is said that even today, the young Kimpurushas try to walk like thunder, roar to shake the heart of even the bravest and fight with skill that awes the enemy, just so they can be a reflection of him. The Parākhyatantra talks of the tribe inhabiting the green slopes of Mount Meru. It is interesting to note that many Kimpurushas have Yakshini mothers. The combination of valor with the mystical element is a force to reckon with.
There is more to the strength of this tribe. Sage Pulaha was well-known for his mastery over alchemy. Using alchemical gold as a regular medicine, Brahma’s son created an entire tribe of people who had golden skin and manes that shone in the tropical sun.
One more thing. The Kimpurushas are immortal. They live till they choose death. Even today, the hills of Arunachal Pradesh prevent possible entry from China not because we have every point manned with soldiers. No enemy will dare to cross the slopes that house these warriors. Who would want to come face to face with 7ft majestic Kimpurushas who cannot be killed?
