Spirits are attracted to certain plants. There are some trees that are regular haunts of these beings. People say it is the lack of oxygen or the presence of a curse. Both or something more? It could be something more. It could be the presence of beings that remain invisible to the human eye.

Why do some beings choose to live in plants and trees? There is a reciprocal arrangement between certain flora and disembodied beings. Sometimes this is for residence, many a time for security and most of the times for both. It is easy to see how a being can provide security for a tree while the tree can provide residence for the being. However, did you know that certain trees care for, nourish and protect certain beings from the public eye and harm?

It is very well known that certain disembodied beings like to live in the tamarind trees. Tamarind trees unlike most trees, gives out carbon dioxide even during the day. The lack of oxygen content generally dissuades birds and small animals from roosting/ resting on its branches. The absence of life forms, which is usually a deterrent to these beings, is like a welcome mat. The type of beings that choose the tamarind tree are the newly dead, or beings that suddenly lost their body in accidents or in murders. Tantrics like to use some of these beings for their dark arts and the tamarind tree is their chosen tree to frequent.

But not all beings that choose plant life as residence are inexperienced ghosts. The Alstonia scholaris or the Devil tree is home to some of the most powerful beings on the planet; The Yakshas and Yakshis. Have you ever tried pruning a saptaparni? Or heard of stories of people who tried to cut down this tree? The experience will leave you chilled to the bone. Woodcutters mention cuts on their body that strangely appears when they come too close to these trees. The remember profusely bleeding and abandoning the idea of cutting the tree. Cuts are generally noticed on the extremities which then will bleed more profusely and much longer. People who were carrying children mention how the child would cry uncontrollably and would be hard to pacify, till they leave the particular area.

The beings on the F.religiosa are much more benign and the naga spirits of the F. benghalensis choose the proximity of temples dedicated to the Feminine Divine.

Very few know about the ever agile தொழுகண்ணி that dances without the wind. People use it for hypnotism and vashikaran thinking that the plant has hypnotic/ hallucinogenic capabilities. The plant is a Kayakalpa herb that houses at least one being at any time. Usually a Yaskshini. That is why you bow twice before you pick this particular herb. Once for the plant and once for the being. If permissions are sought the right way, wars can be stopped. Countries can come back from the brink of bankruptcy and the near-dead can be brought back to fitness.
Only the near-dead, mind you. For the dead, the herb is different. So is the being.
But that is a topic for another post.
